Former Michigan congressman Pete Hoekstra (R) made news last week by saying he would create an office that would verify a presidential candidate’s citizenship. “Birtherism” is not prevalent in Michigan. Hoekstra currently is the GOP front-runner to challenge Debbie Stabenow (D) for her U.S. Senate seat.  

 “I am focused on jobs in terms of where federal resources should be,” Stabenow said in response to Hoekstra’s comments.
